FPSE: Stronger Together
- Labour
- Education
The Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC (FPSE) represents the voices of 10,000 faculty and staff teaching at universities, colleges, institutes and private sector institutions across 18 member locals. The FPSE team brings advocacy and expertise to their work on securing sustainable funding, advancing equity and inclusion, protecting academic freedom, and improving working conditions for educators.
The Challenge
A decade of service, ready for a change
FPSE’s Drupal website served the organization well for many years, but it was no longer keeping pace with how they worked. The site’s backend editing experience limited their ability to manage and present content in a way that matched their workflows. Rigid templates and automated lists forced campaigns, issues, and committees into uniform structures, even though the material itself varied.
File management posed an additional burden, with broken links, inconsistent access, and resources that quickly became outdated.
After years of expanding content without rethinking its architecture, navigation had become confusing and information was fragmented.
The solution
A flexible content model
We reimagined the content model around flexibility, clarity, and long-term sustainability. The new framework transformed the editorial experience, giving administrators the control and confidence to surface timely information, highlight emerging priorities, and communicate with members more effectively. Editors can now feature what matters most, retire outdated material, and maintain coherent, current messaging across the site.
Resources have become more durable and adaptable, supported by stable URLs and expandable content structures. Events appear within a polished, integrated calendar that reflects the organization’s active, connected community. The site has evolved from rigidity and fragility to a platform built for adaptive storytelling and sustainable content management—fully aligned with FPSE’s dynamic, member-driven spirit.

Dynamic and easy to navigate
The homepage evolved from flat and static to vibrant and expressive, reflecting the depth and diversity of the organization. The new design brings their members to the forefront, making their collective presence visible.
With the redesign, we built a cohesive structure grounded in clarity and orientation. The new mega menu provides context at every level, offering intuitive groupings and a clearer sense of how each section fits within the whole.
Each major area now features a dedicated landing page that serves as a central hub, uniting the organization’s structures, policies, campaigns, resources, news, and events in one accessible space. Together, these changes create a digital meeting place designed to inform, support, and inspire those shaping the future of learning.
Architecture for advocacy
The updated FPSE website has a flexible content model that reflects the fluid, interconnected nature of advocacy work. Bringing together Issues and Campaigns into one website section, the new post type allows editors to represent initiatives and campaigns of any scale or duration—whether ongoing, periodic, one-time, or collaborative—without imposing rigid structures. Each entry can stand alone or be categorized under an issue or campaign, giving the organization complete control over how it presents and evolves its priorities while maintaining clear, intuitive navigation.
Campaign and issue pages now serve as one-stop destinations for understanding each area of focus. Visitors can explore contextual overviews alongside dynamically related news, events, and resources, gaining a complete view of the organization’s activity around a given topic. This structure allows each campaign or issue to function as both archive and living hub, showing not only what the organization stands for, but how it acts on those commitments.
By surfacing related materials automatically within each issue or campaign, the platform streamlines editorial effort while preserving flexibility. Editors can still manually curate featured items or embed callouts within other content to direct readers back to relevant campaigns when desired. The result is an adaptable, sustainable framework that makes advocacy visible, connected, and easy to explore.
Supporting the future of post-secondary education
The new FPSE website captures the organization’s energy, intellect, and collective purpose. It brings coherence to their content, while giving staff the tools to manage it with agility and confidence. Built for growth and grounded in clarity, the platform now reflects the organization as it truly is: dynamic, principled, and united in its commitment to improving post-secondary education across British Columbia.
