the challenge

Understanding green hydrogen

Salish Elements came to us with a website that did not effectively convey the organization’s vision and capabilities. When they engaged us, they were at the onset of a province-wide partnership campaign. Given this timing, they recognized the need for a website that concisely represented their work while also being easy to manage for a small team of content editors.

One of the key challenges was that the content on the site provided too much technical detail on the mechanics of hydrogen production and did not connect with their audiences. The design was inconsistent with their brand strategy so there was an essential opportunity to bring the look and feel inline with their purpose and values.

OUR solution

An exercise in discovery

We met with the Salish Elements team and following a thorough discovery process, we produced a sitemap and high-level strategy for the development of a polished WordPress website that would communicate their vision, values, and mission. The site was also intended as a tool to educate audiences on hydrogen technology at a high level and effectively communicate the importance of their work in communities across British Columbia. We also established that it was important for the visual design to connect to the elements that are the key components of their business model: water, nature and Indigenous leadership.

Going deep to surface what matters most

Our design and content teams took a deep dive into Salish Element’s existing content and promotional materials. We surfaced their beautiful creative assets, incorporating Salish linework elements, video, and graphic design assets into the site’s navigation and page designs.

Our development team focused on ensuring ease of content management and delivering a website that could scale with a fast-moving organization. The WordPress solution has provided Salish Elements with a reliable and flexible platform as they continue to evolve within the green technology movement and partner with communities across the province.
