Vancity Community Foundation: Building Community Together
- Social Justice
Vancity Community Foundation was founded on the belief that if we all work together, we will have the resources needed to build a thriving and vibrant community. The Foundation provides funding to social enterprises. This helps to meet social needs and address poverty by increasing jobs and access to goods and services in underserved communities.
the challenge
A complete overhaul
Vancity Community Foundation engaged Affinity Bridge for a new website after conducting an RFP process. In their documentation, they identified several core issues with their existing site. From an engagement perspective, the site did not reflect best practices in website design and navigation, failing to present a dynamic and contemporary organization. The writing style needed to be updated to be more web-friendly, and videos and photos needed to be more engaging.
Additionally, their content management system was outdated and did not serve the organization’s needs to be able to independently maintain the website. The experience for external users was equally frustrating, particularly on mobile devices.

The Solution
Empowering content management
To address the suite of issues, we worked with Vancity Community Foundation on a content strategy that would support a re-envisioned user experience and an updated design. Aligning the user and organizational needs, we developed a solution that is easy to navigate and maintain.
It is critical that the VCF website addresses the needs of their target audiences, from prospective and existing donors and investees to professional financial advisors, community partners and Vancity members and staff. We balanced these needs when developing the information architecture, and created a compelling and engaging user experience through logical navigation and community-minded design. The revitalized site clearly communicates who they are, what they do and what they care about – building a society that's inclusive, just, and sustainable.
